呵呵,楼主注意：
1 in his class 确实有特指他的班级,他们班的意思,这里已经用 his 表达了这一含义,当然也可以用 the 替换.既然如此为什么又要加入一个the ,而且位置也不对呀.
2. any other 指的是任何其他的,不含自己,the other 与之意思相同,但是any the other 没有这样的用法.
请楼主仔细体会,只要你不钻牛角,稍微想想就大悟了.

这里的情况实际上用比较级表示最高级，表示的意思和：He is the tallest boy in his class.是一致的。。。IN HIS CLASS 在这里实际上是对前面比较级的补充，就像汉语里的双重否定表否定一样，两个短语一衬托，就暗指“他是班上最高的男生了”
而the other在这种语境下是不能用的。。。
